In the age of A.I. and Spotify, why fight for independent radio? res.radio - an internet community radio station from Vienna is prepping and practicing community driven forms of resistance against the empires. I was an honored guest and shared the stage with Miyra Lim and Mena Huber in a beautiful talk about the history of res.radio, my experience with radio and future possibilities of a radio station in times of alienation.

Mena Huber

Mena Huber has seen the club from every angle—cloakroom, organizer, manager, even facing dismissal due to industrial action. She's part of the non-profit 4lthangrund and works as a production manager for festivals. With her extensive radio experience, including Fast+Nice's show on Res.Radio and co-curating Club Resonanzen on Orange 94.0, she brings valuable insight to our discussion on the role of community radio.

Mena Huber kennt den Club aus jeder Perspektive: Garderobe, Organisation, Management – und sogar Entlassung nach Protesten. Sie ist Teil des Kulturzentrums 4lthangrund, arbeitet als Produktionsleiterin für Festivals und ist aktiv im Radio-Bereich. Mit dem Kollektiv Fast+Nice und ihrer kuratierten Sendung Clubresonanzen (Orange 94.0, Res.Radio) bringt sie wertvolle Einblicke in die Bedeutung von Community-Radios mit.

Originally from Vienna's 21st district, Miyra Lim has deepened their connection to the local music scene over the past two years through their involvement with the Lo-ve-Fi crew and Res.Radio. Their passion for music and underground culture began at an early age, shaping their belief in its ability to foster community beyond traditional institutions, making it a vital part of any major city. As an artist, they have gained experience through a range of performance projects, all rooted in social dance, and have also established themselves as a DJ resident and radio host for Res.Radio and FM4 Dance.

Ursprünglich aus dem 21. Bezirk Wiens, hat Miyra Lim in den letzten zwei Jahren ihre Verbindung zur Wiener Musikszene durch ihre Mitarbeit bei der Lo-ve-Fi Crew und Res.Radio weiter vertieft. Schon früh entwickelte sich ihre Leidenschaft für Musik und Underground-Kultur, die sie heute als wichtige Katalysatoren für den Aufbau von Communities außerhalb großer Institutionen betrachtet – ein zentraler Bestandteil jeder größeren Stadt.
